Dr. Beelman has been researching the nutritious value of mushrooms since the 1970's. His research identified the amino acid, Ergothioneine (or Ergo), as being abundantly prevalent in mushrooms and it is found in animals that have eaten grasses containing Ergo. According to WEBMD, studies indicate that Ergo may provide beneficial support for Alzheimer's, the liver, joints, cataracts, diabetes and the heart.
In order to increase long-term health outcomes and life expectancy, Dr. Beelman encourages greater consumption of mushrooms as a means to significantly increase consumption of Ergo and other important micronutrients found in mushrooms. Dr. Beelman's research has also identified how non-regenerative agricultural practices can have a significantly negative impact on Ergo levels in the food supply; as animals are no longer getting Ergo nutrients from the soil which are destroyed each year by tilling and chemicals.
